In 2020, the minimum wage increased in 24 states and Washington, D.C. The size of increases ranged from $0.10 in Florida to $1.50 in New Mexico, Washington, and New York City for certain employees. In New York and Oregon, state laws provided for regional minimum wages. Many states have their own salary and duties tests for determining whether an employee is exempt from overtime under state rules. In some of these states, the minimum salary requirement for exemption increases automatically whenever the minimum wage increases. Is the Federal Minimum Wage Rising in 2025?

We provide the links so you can check each individual county or city on your own. You are advised to do so if you want to run a business in the location, as some minimum wage laws can have some particularities in some of them. Some counties and cities have also set their minimum wages above or below both federal and state levels. According to the Economic Policy Institute website, 44 of those entities have done so. Their site does not list individual minimum wages for them, but we researched it and are providing them here. Minimum wage increases in 2020

Many of those states have passed laws in recent years that increase wages at the start of each calendar year, and many Americans are likely to see a pay raise now that 2020 has begun. Employers must pay at least this amount to all non-exempt workers for every hour worked in the District. This means even though Georgia, Wyoming, and Oklahoma are the states with the lowest listed minimum wages, the federal minimum wage of $7.25 takes precedence for most workers. Since the minimum wage floor was introduced at 25¢ an hour in 1938, lawmakers have approved 22 increases, typically spaced anywhere from one to ten years apart.
